Marian is an interdisciplinary artist and activist working in Baltimore, Maryland. An avid photographer from a young age, Marian honed her photographic skills in the color darkroom and in the digital lab. Struck by the emotional and dramatic possibilities of light, she devoted herself to a path of inquiry and creation grounded in perception, culture, scientific research and studio experiments.
After graduating from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) with her MFA in Photographic and Electronic Media, Marian worked as Photography Department staff and later adjunct professor. She currently works as studio assistant to public artist Jann Rosen-Queralt. Through Marian's education at MICA and professional experience ever since, she learned how to see and tug on the threads of thought that will allow for her most heartfelt expression of purpose. Her practice is divided in its attentions and unitified in its cause: expressing and processing through art, imagery and action.
Marian's creative path is a winding trail that leads from observer behind a lens to experiential and perceptually engaging and back to representational again. Some current projects address intersections of the internet and personal identity after the artists' content was stolen and reposted online.
She is from Galveston, Texas and earned an MFA in Photographic and Electronic Media from Maryland Institute College of Art after recieveing a BFA in Photography and Digital Media from the University of Houston.
